While staying with a neighbor in Edgewood, Christina L. Beattie has been accused of setting an intentional blaze on the front porch of her home while someone was inside early on Sunday morning.

According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal, around 3 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 1, crews were called to the 1100 block of Shady Drive, where there were reports of flames that were spotted on the porch.

Deputies from the Harford County Sheriff's Office were able to knock down the flames with fire extinguishers, and while investigating, they determined that Beattie was inside her neighbor's home after they had responded to the residence earlier that day for an argument between her and another man living in the house.

During the initial dispute, Beattie was advised to stay with the neighbor while the man stay in their house; however, Beattie had other intentions.

The neighbor told deputies that 20 minutes later, Beattie left her, and when she came back, her home was on fire with the man still inside, and a K9 investigator determined that the fire was intentionally set.

Beattie was charged with:

  • First- and second-degree arson;
  • First- and second-degree malicious burning;
  • Attempted murder.

She is being held at the Harford County Detention Center without bond.
